Have you ever considered what's in the food you feed your kids? Most foods purchased at neighborhood grocery stores are considered global foods, full of additives and chemicals that make them far less nutritious than local produce at the community farmers market. After much research, I have concluded that it is better to buy locally grown products rather than globally sourced products (from other countries). I think this is important because most people, like me, buy global foods and don't realize how much better local foods are for the local economy, the global environment, and our personal diets. Nutrition is vital to everyone's health, especially children, so by purchasing fresh local produce, it can ease parents' worries about what their children and ourselves are ingesting. Locally grown produce is healthier for children because it contains more nutrients in the food, which means fewer additives and better taste, helping them develop properly. I believe that parents, caregivers or anyone who has contact with a child should know what food they eat. need and why local products are better for the child. I choose child nutrition because in psychology classes we are studying their development, so something as simple as the fruits and vegetables they eat can influence all points of the child's life. Also, my sister is pregnant, so as the baby's aunt, I feel I have a responsibility to help my younger sister and teach her about nutrition for her baby. After doing some research, I know that feeding my grandchildren local produce when they grow up is vital and can improve their development.
