Units should talk about the difference meal breaks have made to their day. Trends in patient satisfaction and safety, for example falls, should be analyzed to determine the effect of uninterrupted meal breaks by staff. Ideally, patient satisfaction and safety should improve if nursing staff take effective and uninterrupted meal breaks. Trends should improve as teamwork and communication increase, resulting in brightening response calls during breaks and awareness of where the nurse is when they don't see them or another nurse comes in to attend to their needs. Upon hiring, the lunch break routine should begin right from the start and expectations should be communicated to both the hiree and their preceptor. Developing the routine during orientation should make it easier to maintain during practice
