The main objective of this thesis is to design and implement an OFDM based modem. This thesis improves upon previous work done in this field. Most of the literature found regarding OFDM contains work done based on FFT or fast Fourier transform, but the transform is limited to root-2 which severely limits OFDM main channel splitting capabilities. Using radix-2 the main channel can be divided into only 3 subcarriers while using radix-4 the main channel can be divided into 31 subcarriers. By using FFT you can achieve demodulation and by using its reverse demodulation you can achieve reverse demodulation. By combining these two parts you can make a modem that can be used for wireless or wired communications efficiently. Say no to plagiarism. The document first defines the relevant terminology in the field and then describes the recent evolution of FPDs. The three main categories of FPDs are outlined: simple PLDs (SPLDs), complex PLDs (CPLDs), and field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs). Detailed information on the architectures of all the most important commercially available chips is then provided and application examples for each type of device are provided. This article was used to build the central system of this thesis. Karen Parnell and Nick Mehta [2] The book details the history of programmable logic, where and how to use it, how to install free, fully functional design software, and then walks you through your first of many projects. There are also sections on VHDL and schematic acquisition design entries, and finally a database of useful application examples. This resource has helped you design with discrete logic, base all your designs on microcontrollers, or simply want to learn how to use the latest and most advanced programmable logic software, you will find in this book an interesting insight into a different way of designing .IEEE Standard VHDL Language Reference Manual [3] The VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) is defined. VHDL is a formal notation intended for use in all stages of creating electronic systems. Because it is both machine- and human-readable, it supports the development, verification, synthesis, and testing of hardware designs; hardware design data communication; and hardware maintenance, modification, and procurement. Its primary audience is implementers of tools that support the language and advanced users of the language. The logical design and synthesis of all components using VHDL in this thesis have been designed with reference to the key section of this manual. Bushida Hirosaki [4] An orthogonally multiplexed QAM (O-QAM) system is a multi-channel system with baud rate spacing between adjacent carrier frequencies; this property is desirable to digitally implement the system using the discrete Fourier transform (DFT). This paper provides a new digital signal processing method based on N/2-point DFT processing in O-QAM system. A comparison of the complexity between a digital O-QAM system and a single-channel digital QAM system shows that the digital O-QAM system using the new method is more economical than the digitally implemented conventional single-channel data transmission system..
