The National Honors Society is East Chicago Central High School's highest honor of excellence. I am a dedicated and diligent student, who with the assistance of the NHS can benefit my academic and personal life. I always do my best academically and I always do my best to be a great role model. I personally believe I would be a valuable member of the NHS because I feel I can change many lives for the better in my future. Being in the NHS, as a member of my community, can open up more opportunities for my life. However, in order to do this, I would have to follow the four pillars of the NHS. Personally I like school because it is an institution where I can challenge myself and learn new things. This is exactly what the first cornerstone, the Scholarship, tries to say. For me, scholarship means feeling the need not only to succeed, but to go well beyond success and overcome one's mental limitations. I have already begun to incorporate scholarship into my academic life by joining the Calculus club to prepare for the AP Calculus exam during my senior year of high school. In my personal life, I will strive to always push myself mentally by putting in extra work and moving forward to be ready to exceed my potential the next day. Leadership is something that is not new to me. I have been told and know that I have many leadership qualities. To me, a leader is someone who has the drive to put others before themselves. A great leader must exhibit confidence, intelligence, and possess the thought process necessary to make decisions that will affect a group and not just himself. Even though I like to take responsibility sometimes, I do my best to listen to other students' ideas and give my honest opinion. no to plagiarism. Get an Original Essay To me, service is the willingness to lead others in need without reward, such as volunteer work or community service. Even though I don't do much in my community, I stay and care for my grandmother who got cancer while my grandfather works during my free time at home. I honestly love helping people in need, but I feel like I never have the time to do it. This year I will change that by planning to talk to my counselor to see what other volunteer activities I can do at school and in my community. I believe that providing a service to the community or a family member is a great way to build character. The hardest cornerstone to explain is the last cornerstone, Character. Everyone is different in their own way, but a person described as having good character is a person who always tries to make good decisions throughout their life. Some qualities that can be associated with good character are respect, responsibility, honesty, creativity, intuition and many more that apply. A person should try to apply these qualities in all his actions. I'm not perfect, but that just means I have to try harder. I can't promise I won't make mistakes. However, I will learn from all my mistakes and use them to get back on the path to a successful future. Finally, even though I know there will be difficult times ahead, I will persevere and exceed the expectations of my peers and teachers. . I'm now an NHS candidate and to be honest I couldn't ask for more. I hope to join this successful organization and be at the pinnacle of success like all those before me. Thank you for considering me as a candidate for this opportunity. Works Cited National Honor, 39(1),, 38, 120-130.
