I distinctly remember a day ten years ago when I argued with my sister and instead of being punished, my mother decided to take away my books – I couldn't have imagined a worse punishment . For much of my childhood, I was the kid who would rather sit in a tree and read than jump rope. As I read, I felt part of the story; the outside world disappeared and there was only me and the heroes of the book. But it wasn't until I took the English Literature course during my International Baccalaureate that I truly became passionate about the art of reading. We studied “The Great Gatsby” by F. Scott Fitzgerald; I was fascinated by the images, the choice of words created, the characters so beautifully crafted that I began to feel love for some and deep hatred for others. What I particularly admire are strong characters and controversial subtext, as can be found in the works of George Orwell or Henrik Ibsen. Say no to plagiarism. While I enjoy writing, studying the works of others is my real fascination. During my studies at an international school I shared a classroom with students from all over the world, which sparked my interest in anthropology. Unfortunately, my school did not offer Anthropology as a subject, however when I started studying Psychology at the University of Aberdeen in 2016, I decided to elect Anthropology as an additional course. I started to realize that I actually enjoyed the additional courses more than the specialization, which is why I decided to leave college and take the time to choose the right career path for me. During this time I visited thirteen countries on three continents alone, equipped only with a backpack. This experience not only helped me grow as a human being, but it taught me valuable lessons, including the importance of being organized, how to live on a budget, and also helped me improve time management. But more importantly, it made me realize that what I want to do with my life is something that has always played an important role in my life: my interests in both literature and different cultures. Above all, my interest in anthropology was deepened during my time abroad. , as I met people from different cultural backgrounds with different customs and social norms. What I found particularly intriguing is how different culture can be, even within the same country. For example, the Indonesian island of Bali is largely dominated by Hinduism, while the neighboring island of Lombok is almost exclusively Muslim. I wondered how two places so close, geographically and socially speaking, come to have such different beliefs. Please note: this is just an example. Get a custom paper from our expert writers now. This job not only taught me perseverance, but also strengthened my ability to work independently and under pressure. In my free time I like to take yoga lessons and, depending on the season, I like to snowboard and surf. My time at the University of Aberdeen in 2016 is something I am very grateful for and I believe the subjects of English and Anthropology suited me.
