Topic > Comparison between past and present societies

The current modern environment and society we live in is very different from the hunter-gatherer society where people hunted for their food, in our modern society we don't need to hunt for food because we have people who do it for us, for example farmers. We can order groceries delivered to our home instead of traveling and picking them up ourselves, we can order a meal to our home without moving, we are very different from the early homo sapiens and homo erectus I talked about before. Early homo sapiens lived as hunter-gatherers (Tattersall, I. (2009)), when we lived as hunter-gatherers they didn't order take-out, they hunted, gathered and harvested their food. There is a huge difference between our society today and what we were like when we first evolved into homo sapiens. Most people now live in buildings such as houses or apartments, which are normally located in large cities or towns. In these homes you can often find things that can be harmful to humans and the skeleton, such as chairs and artificial light, these things are used every day and we do not realize that these things are actually harmful to us. Hunter-gatherers lived differently than us. All hunter-gatherers built some type of housing, however it was constructed from locally sourced materials such as mud and organic materials, they also stayed in places that would benefit from them (Smith, 2003). We can now keep people alive much longer thanks to the drugs and surgeries we can now administer and perform. Nowadays, patients with cardiovascular problems are more likely to live much longer than those who had the same problem 300 years ago, this is because our society has expanded its medical capabilities and provided us with new drugs such as penicillin found by Alexander Flemming in 1928, By increasing our knowledge of health and better understanding human life, we have been able to prolong life and increase life expectancy. We haven't just expanded our medical capabilities, we're also improving other technologies, such as applications on phones and laptops. Now we can use technology and our phones to monitor our health, this was not available 300 years ago because the evolution of our technology happened very quickly and involved many purchases at one time. One of the greatest technologies we have right now is artificial intelligence, which can help us with all kinds of things, it can help with medical needs, information and asset creation. Artificial intelligence is a great technology, artificial intelligence is the ability of computers to have almost human intelligence, it can be used for all different things. So, our society and our environment have bought great things, but with great things they have bought bad things, such as health problems such as obesity and musculoskeletal disorders such as osteoporosis.
