Topic > Microethnographic report: observation of the pool area

For my ethnography, I wanted to stay where I felt most comfortable to make my observations and that is outside the apartment where I live near the pool area. I decided to make my observations for 3 hours on September 28, 2018 from 6pm to 9pm. This research took place at the Apex West Midtown Apartment where I was an observer and took note of my surroundings and the people around me. Say no to plagiarism. To enter the pool area I noticed a black gate guarding the area and to open it you would have to pull the lock upwards. There were many lounge chairs and blue and red couches lined up in many sizes. Some deck chairs had a red umbrella on them and a small table next to them. The pool was quite large and appeared to be shaped like the letter "G" with a bar in the middle. And on both sides behind the gate, there are apartment buildings towering over it. After sitting down to finally observe the people around me around 6:05 pm, I noticed that there was a girl who looked to be about 11 years old, wearing a pink bathing suit and black t-shirt in the pool doing back flips and every now and then he stops to float on his back. I assume that her mother is the lady who looks out on the balcony of one of the apartments and watches her while she is in the pool because the little girl keeps looking up every time she does a trick in the water, smiling. There is a man on one of the lounge chairs by the pool with a woman who resembles their tan. The lady sips a martini with one hand and texts with the other. She stops halfway through the message to show something to the man sitting next to her while pointing to the bar, then continues writing again. I looked at the bar to see what exactly he was trying to show him, but I couldn't place it. At 7, the little girl gets out of the pool, looks around, takes a towel and begins to dry herself. He looked around once more, then walked to the edge of the pool and stood there for a while. Then suddenly he holds his nose and dives. At 7.12pm, she came out, grabbed the towel, then headed to the stairs and went up. At 7.40pm, the man and woman also did the same and by that time the sun had already set and the pool light had come on. At around 8.03pm a group of individuals came running towards the pool and dived in one by one. A man went behind the counter to connect his phone to the speakers, then Drake's "Nice for what" came on. There were two men and two women in the pool throwing a ball around. At 8.20pm they were still in the pool having fun. One of the men behind the counter approached me and asked me to join them, but I politely declined his offer. I told him I was too tired and was just relaxing, enjoying the atmosphere. At 8.55pm the music stopped and everyone got out, dried off, got dressed and headed out the gate. After that I noticed how quiet the place was. The breeze blew lightly. This was evident from the small waves formed in the pool. Please note: this is just an example.
