He approaches Shannon assuming he was the hotel manager and asks if there is any vacancy. But she is an artist and her grandfather is a poet, so they exchange their art for goods and services. Maxine hears this and immediately pushes Hannah and her grandfather away. Shannon convinces Maxine to let the two stay one night. Hannah thanks Shannon and befriends him, Maxine sees him and is jealous. Later that night Maxine approaches Hannah and tells her that she has made arrangements for them at a guesthouse. He tries to plead with Maxine, but she is stubborn. Hannah asks Shannon about this boarding house only to find out it's a terrible place. Hearing this Shannon approaching, Maxine quickly walks away as if nothing had happened. Shannon and Hannah bond over a cigarette. Later that day, Maxine approaches Shannon and tells him that she wants to return to the United States and open a hotel or stay in Mexico with him to help her. They are interrupted when a man approaches Shannon. The man tells him that Shannon's tour group will now join his because he has been deemed unfit to finish the tour. After a physical confrontation the man leaves with Shannon's group. Shannon throws a tantrum, gets tied up by hotel employees on Maxine's orders. Hannah tries to comfort Shannon by talking to him and making him tea so he can calm down, these attempts fail when he manages to free himself from the ropes. After Hannah confides in Shannon that she too has been through some meltdowns like the one he just went through, Shannon asks him if he can accompany her on her travels.
