I am very interested in computer engineering along with computer science as I truly have a passion and love for technology. Deciding which career to pursue is a very difficult decision to make because you may not know what you like. Everyone is afraid of putting in a lot of time and hard work to get a job they don't like. Therefore, choosing your career is perhaps the most important decision in your adult life. I personally chose to focus on a career in technology as I have always loved technology and have been working with it since I was a child. For now, I have decided to study to become a computer scientist because I like coding things and finding ways on how to make things work properly while still using technology. After taking the Clifton Strengths Assignment, I found that my top 5 strengths were: Focus, Restorative, Strategic, Achiever, and Accountability. My most dominant trait was focus, which means I can take a direction or make a choice and stick with it until I'm completely done. This can be very helpful as a computer scientist since there are many tasks to do in the job and you need to fully focus on one project at a time to get things done efficiently. My other strengths such as restorative, strategic, and successful can come in handy as these strengths make it easier for you to overcome challenges and problems. As a computer scientist, you face many problems, so these 3 strengths are crucial. Finally, my strength of responsibility will come in handy as you will have to admit the mistakes you may make as a computer scientist. You need to be able to take the blame and improve your skills. However, if you are very talented, you can earn up to $203,198in the Houston area. Daily tasks include designing computers and the software that runs them, and participating in multidisciplinary projects in areas such as virtual reality, human-computer interaction or robotics. As a computer scientist, you need to know how to code certain things using Python, Java, or other programs. Additionally, in the Houston area, most computer and computer science research scientists have some form of undergraduate background, i.e., a bachelor's, master's, or bachelor's degree.Doctoral degree. Additionally, this job is on the rise in the Houston area with 1,832 jobs popping up from October 2016 to now. My future job would be great as the average computer and information researcher makes $129,000 in the Houston area, which means I will still have some money even after having a pretty expensive lifestyle. The lifestyle I intend to live would be quite expensive as I desire: a luxury vehicle, a house, pets, 2 children, luxurious clothes, leather furniture, proper dental and health care, going to the movies and still going on vacation with friends and family. It would be a very expensive lifestyle but luckily my job will be able to pay for it. I would also donate $1,000 every year to my local charity to help give back and help the poor. My career as a computer and IT researcher would not prefer me to live in a certain area as most of the work is done digitally via a computer. However, it might help since most of the big tech companies are based in California, which might make me move to Los Angeles. If I decided to move to Los Angeles, my cost of living would increase significantly since many things there are much more expensive. Food would increase 30%, housing would increase 160%, transportation would increase 30%, and healthcare would increase 21%. Housing would be the most significant factor as housing in Los Angeles is 160% more expensive than in Houston, which would increase my primary expense by a lot! I would need a salary of $200,147 to live in California as comfortably as I would live in Houston, which I find pretty absurd. However, the average salary in California is higher than in Houston, which somewhat offsets the immense price increase. Another city I would consider living in is New York as it is home to many large tech companies. However, moving to New York would be very expensive. Food would be 44% more, housing 283% more, utilities 7% more, transportation 11% more and finally healthcare 16% more! The most noticeable price increase would be in housing as it is about 3 times higher than Houston! Luckily, people in New York are paid higher on average than Houstonians, which can help pay for the huge amount of money needed to live in Brooklyn compared to Houston.
