In life, people are easily influenced by what happens around them. Events surrounding people can play with their emotions and how they act. From a pleasant occasion or a terribly sad event, people behave differently. In the play Hamlet by William Shakespeare, the main character, Hamlet, is in complete melancholy, or is he? In this play, King Hamlet has died, and as a result, his son, Hamlet, has entered a sorrowful state of mind. His parents are now worried about him and worry about how to release his pain. However, they seem to only push things to get worse. They later seem to believe that Hamlet has overcome his grief and replaced it with complete madness. Now they have decided to spy on him and send his friends to school to understand what is bothering him. He uses his intelligence to figure out why his friends randomly appeared in his castle. No one seems to understand why Hamlet is mad, other than the fact that his father is dead. However, the audience knows that Hamlet has seen his father's ghost. The ghost told Hamlet that he was poisoned by his brother, King Claudius, and wants Hamlet to avenge his death. The play is all about revenge and Hamlet uses the madness depicted to achieve this. Throughout the play, his parents try to make Hamlet happy and return to his normal state. He uses it against them, to get closer to uncovering evidence against King Claudius. “The play the thing”, turns into all the proof he needs. This is a popular line from Hamlet and clearly demonstrates his brilliance. His cunning proves that the King is guilty but in a discreet way. From this point on, Hamlet only needs to find a chance to kill King Claudius. With this goal finally accomplished... middle of paper... he actually used it against King Claudius. Insanity is the state of mental illness, it can lead to behaving ridiculously and being sad. Hamlet does a great job pretending to be in this state of mind and faking the entire audience and other characters. It takes a brilliant act to imitate madness and remain perfectly sane. It's intriguing to think that it can be done, it takes a lot of courage, intelligence and ingenuity to make it happen. Desperate times call for drastic measures and mislead people into thinking one is crazy; It means putting your life and reputation at risk. It's a courageous act and not many people have the courage to try it. However, when a family is involved in a terrible situation, they should always do everything in their power to make things right. Even to the point of risking their own lives, to save or honor their loved ones.
