The study was emailed to just 402 students at a New England university. Of the 102 students who responded to the survey, 74 were female and 18 were male. In summary, the majority of survey responses indicated that students preferred using cell phones, Internet search tools, and writing notes rather than typing them. Importantly, Nichols (2008) stated that nearly 43% said their preferred learning method was the use of power point slides in conjunction with lectures.
