Is everyone born purely good inside? Or are we all filled with a certain amount of good and bad? In William Golding's Lord of the Flies a plane full of schoolchildren lands on a desert island, killing all the adults. Without adult supervision or civility, children fall back into the madness and savagery that is human nature. In William Golding's Lord of the Flies his character Simon uses spiritual power to discover what the beast truly is, showing how he failed to warn others, how his use of power affected the book as a whole, and how he spiritual power. in the real world. Simon uses spiritual power by discovering what the beast sees and what the beast really is. After Simon "[becomes] inarticulate in his effort to express humanity's essential sickness." (Golding 89) to the other kids, he knows they won't believe him if he simply tells them about the Beast, so he knows the only way they will believe him is if he finds evidence. He also accepts that kids might not believe him, which directly shows him that he uses spiritual power by just standing with his beliefs. Another way Simon uses spiritual power is when he displays innate goodness in every way possible. One of the characteristics of spiritual power is that power comes from inner beauty and purity of thought and behavior. Simon shows this by truly caring about the kids, because Simon is just the kind of kind and caring person. He also takes care of the little ones that no one really seems to care about. He “found for them the fruit they could not reach, plucked the best from the foliage, returned them to the infinite outstretched hands” (Golding 138). Even knowing that the other kids think he's weird, he still tries to... middle of paper... lies, and yet still fed up with the bullying. Bullies, while they might be horrible, turn out to be harmless when confronted, just like Simon when he confronted the Beast. Ultimately, although he failed to inform the other boys, Simon through his use of spiritual power was able to recognize the truth. He remained strong against evil even as it consumed the island after his death. People can look at it as an example of how to act in real life. And truth be told, Simon is an important character in William Golding's Lord of the Flies, not just because of all this, but because he is what every person should want to be. In the book others mistreat him because they don't fully understand him, but Simon in all reality is a role model to the world. Don't you think the world would be a better place if we all tried to act a little like Simon??
