The end of the war was approaching and both sides were desperate. The atmosphere of the film puts the audience into this nightmare. At this point, all the soldiers were exhausted from fighting. The Nazis were in a state of all-out war as Hitler mobilized all civilians for the war effort. The film depicts this as many who did not follow the Nazis' orders were hanged. The Nazis also began using children for guerrilla tactics and counterattacks. An article titled “Werwolves of Deutschland” talks about how the Nazis trained these children to become instruments of destruction. The author, Gavin Mortimer, states that "in 1945 around 2000 recruits came mainly from the Hitler Youth and the League of German Girls" (Mortimer). These child soldiers were called werewolves and their present was glimpsed in the film. There's a scene where a German kid blows up a tank and then gets shot. Wardaddy is not surprised to find the child on the
