New Orleans, Louisiana, also known as the "melting pot", contributes to the unique style of Southern cuisine. Food in New Orleans consists primarily of seafood such as crabs, shrimp, and oysters caught in the Gulf of Mexico; however, many cultures around the world inspire various tastes and flavors. Among the many cultures in New Orleans are Cajun, Creole, Caribbean, Southern, French, African, and Spanish. By comparison, Charleston also displays many similar cultural influences on its great food. Being on the Atlantic coast, crabs, shrimp, and oysters are also some of the main foods consumed in Charleston. Although Charleston does not have Cajun and Creole cultural influence, their food represents cultures such as Native American, Caribbean, Southern United States, French, African, and Spanish. The similarities in the culture of Charleston and New Orleans, expressed through good food, also promise very similar architecture throughout their territory.
