I was working in the cognitive dimension of literacy. I was transacting with the book while using thought processes and strategies to construct meaning. While transacting with the text I was using the sociocultural dimension by using and creating background knowledge to connect what I was reading to my life and what I learned about World War II and the Holocaust in social studies classes. I was using the cognitive dimension of literacy, I was able to read the words on the page to create meaning which I could then link to my background knowledge on the topic. In my last semester of college I took an online English course that presented me with an opportunity to write a persuasive research paper on the effectiveness of the Common Core State
