Topic > The Doctor Stories, by William Carlos Williams

William Carlos Williams uses the examination and expression of details in The Doctor Stories to show various emotions and readers' reactions to those emotions. Use positive emotions such as delight, pleasure, excitement, surprise, and sense of satisfaction to express the positive side of a clinical encounter. It also allows the use of negative emotions for expression: disappointment, frustration, confusion and perplexity. To correctly identify the various emotions and reactions to the complex dimensions of clinical encounters in William Carlos Williams The Doctor Stories, it is necessary to first understand the whats and hows of clinical encounters. A clinical encounter occurs when a healthcare professional interacts with the patient and is responsible for evaluating and treating them. Each meeting has specific key foundations, but the four basic steps are: a) Establish the primary problem and develop a differential diagnosis. b) Perform a patient history and physical examination. c) Outpatient diagnostic tests and laboratory tests. And finally, d) Establish a possible diagnosis and treatment. At the time, Williams had to work with hysterical parents, hypochondriacs, willful children, and poor families with too many children and therefore were unable to pay for services rendered adequately. He also had to deal with ungodly hours that are unheard of in this day and age, as well as the various settings in which he had to travel and hold clinical meetings. At least he hasn't had to deal with patients with technological access to information about all kinds of ailments that make them think they know what's wrong with them, which actually causes more problems because the doctor can't ... half of paper......0). It is a sense of excitement and pleasure that is felt in finally discovering something new rather than in seeing the patient. There is really no reason why the narrator should follow the clinical procedure because upon his first observation he notes that she is fine. After telling the old lady that he could get up, which he already knew, he comes down and interacts with the old man in a positive way even though they can't communicate properly due to the language barrier. He also rejoiced at the old man's payment for the tobacco even though his services were not needed, exclaiming the likelihood of never having such an experience again. Overall, the narrator presents the reader with the emotion of simple satisfaction at the lack of anything negative in the story.William Carlos Williams, The Doctor Stories, New Directions; 1984.
