John Lennon's wife, Yoko Ono, was a big inspiration for the song; she was a poet and had helped Lennon write the song. When Lennon sings, "You may say I'm a dreamer but I'm not the only one," he's referring to his wife. In the music video they walk in a cloud of smoke. The smoke symbolizes the Vietnam War and the dark house symbolizes people's feelings during the war. Towards the end of the video, Ono starts opening the window to let in the light. The light symbolizes what the world could be like if people imagined this world and brought love to the present
