The outbreak of the Balkan Wars in the 1990s clashes with Albanians occupying the United States. The Albanian community plays an important role in the highly concentrated population in the boroughs of New York City and its metropolitan area. The ethnic homes of Albanian Americans generally consist of Montenegro, Kosovo, and Albania. In previous years, facing economic struggles in these poor Balkan countries and social and ethnic discrimination from Serbia, Albanians have moved away from the home in which they once resided. Immigration within the Albanian community in New York City was due to issues that led to the Balkan War in Kosovo in the 1990s. Through immigration, the Albanian ethnic group has made many lifestyle changes and will thrive economically, socially, and numerically within New York City and its metropolitan area. The Albanian-speaking Balkan countries Montenegro, Albania, and Kosovo are populated by several dialects of the language. The Albanian language consists of a very heavy, actual dialect known as the Tuscan dialect, which is actually found south of Kosovo and west of Montenegro. Kosovo, despite being north of Albania, speaks a more improper and lighter dialect known as the Gheg dialect. The Albanian-speaking areas of Montenegro contain a mixture of the Tusk and Ghego dialects. Furthermore, according to the Albanian census of 2011, 56.7% are in fact Sunni Muslims, the second main religion is Catholicism which represents approximately 10%, which then leads to approximately 6.75% of Orthodox Christians (“Republic of 'Albania, Instat” 1). . Years earlier, Kosovo was struggling to establish itself as a country in its own right, being severely controlled by countries such as Serbia. Since 1912, the year of the first Balkan war,...... middle of paper......ces in many neighborhoods. However, the borough of Manhattan and the Bronx of Albanian residents have remained constant in population without drastic changes. After immigration, Albanian Americans have made many changes, stabilizing economically, being socially diverse with the new lifestyle, favoring education and work ethic, and increasingly in growing numbers. The Albanian population of New York City increased from the late 1990s to 2010 by thousands. Because war had once driven them from their homes, Albanians are now incorporated into American life and have become accustomed to their new lives. Even today, Albanians strive to create new businesses and move away from degraded areas to protect their families. Albanians who immigrated during the Balkan issues of the 1990s have adapted greatly to new customs in the New York City area.
