Victims often find that they face a lot of harassment even after being slut-shamed. For example, some men come across girls who have a reputation for being "sluts" because they think girls will be "easy" and "things"; therefore, slut shaming can ruin the way people, especially men, perceive and treat a woman. Slut shaming can also increase rape culture by discrediting a woman's rape accusation due to her sexual history. In so many cases where rape is reported, officers and lawyers attack victims by asking how they were dressed before the rape, how they acted, whether they were "promiscuous" or whether they flirted with their rapist; if any of the above questions were answered “yes,” they would claim that the victim “asked for it.” In the Steubenville rape case, a 16-year-old girl was recorded being raped by two football players during a party. The footage was later sent to other classmates and quickly spread throughout the school; as a result of the “stigma surrounding sexual assault, she [the victim] was labeled a slut and brutally tormented by her classmates” (Nelson, 3). In cases like these, girls feel ashamed of being victims of sexual violence
