Sexual equality is a concept that most of us aspire to in today's society. However, it is nothing but a dream in the past society dominated by Chinese lineage. It is a society famous for men being superior to women. According to Prof. Ma, men and women are treated differently in China's lineage-dominated society. For example, regarding family, workplace and politics, men had absolute power and right to decision-making, while women are not allowed or almost forbidden to be involved in such aspects. Women were considered marginalized even when they married, as if they were only the machine of reproduction and housework. This indicated that women in Chinese lineage-dominated society were not treated equally at all. However, the situation has changed compared to several decades ago, women have acquired a higher status in the workplace and in the family. Women are no longer trapped by this feudal way of thinking. This essay will argue that the gender role has been changed and tends towards sexual equality and that women have a higher social status than before. In the family aspect, in the typical Chinese lineage-dominated society, women possessed little freedom as well as the right to come and take property. All of the above happened, according to the prof. But because women were defined as untrustworthy and considered outsiders. Since this is prevalent, women, whether married or not, are expected to stay at home. They were responsible for all the housework and daily needs of the family. Thanks to the dominance of patrilineal values, women's social life was dominated and blocked at the same time.
