Most of the time it is someone's generation that plays a big role in which era they like the most. For a moment, if someone grew up in the 1950s, they would most likely prefer Hank Williams to Luke Bryan. This, however, is not true in all cases. Everyone is different, which is why not all members of a generation like the same music. Country music hasn't changed drastically over time. The only things that have changed are the pace of the music and the clarity of the singing. Country artists still mostly sing the same thing. The reason the lyrics don't sound similar is that the world is a different place than it was in the 1920s. The lyrics of the artist's songs talk about life changing every decade. Country music has changed very little over time. “Old” country music is more relaxing and peaceful, while “new” country music is more up-tempo and makes you want to get up and start dancing. The lyrics that the artist sings concern more or less the same topic. When it came to singing, artists of the 1920s were clearer with words than today's country.
