1.A) Columbus's discovery of this new world had an impact on the natives who lived there and also on the old world in which all of Europe was affected. The discovery of the New World had effected a fundamental change in the European economy. The consequences for the old world were the introduction of a new trade through the Ottoman Empire in new foods and massive quantities of gold and silver. Food exports to the east declined and were controlled by the Ottomans. The Atlantic states became the economic and political power of Europe. New European crops from the New World included corn, beans, tomatoes, and potatoes. Thanks to these new crops, the improved food supply caused the European population to grow around 1500 and did so for the next three hundred years. The sudden large quantities of gold and silver deposits caused the growth of Atlantic trading economies and massive inflation. Falling European agricultural prices and growing demand for textiles due to the new food supply from the new world led to the enclosure movement, “enclosing agricultural land; that is, by building a boundary of fences or thick hedges around it, the owners could evict their tenants, convert the cultivated fields into meadows, and raise sheep or other herding animals instead” (Backman, 426). Family farms or simply farmers were evicted from their lands as they had nothing to lose and wanted to become settlers in the new world.b) Christopher Columbus first discovered the new world by landing on the island called "Hispianola" (now recognized as the island of Haiti/Dominican Republic). The sailors who landed with Columbus on this island brought with them diseases that the new world had never come into contact with.
