Explains the way school lunch programs are designed in the United States and further describes how they are neglected systems. It states that the National School Lunch Program prioritizes processed foods over fruit and vegetables. This program does this because the profit made by the food industry is valued more than educational and public health goals. Bakker goes on to demonstrate how opposed this is to the food culture of French schools. First of all, the group that controls school lunch policies is called the French Ministry of Education. The article then explains the specific policy followed by school meals when serving food to children. Fruit and vegetables are served every day, unhealthy foods such as fried foods and desserts are served no more than once a week, vending machines are prohibited and finally it is highly discouraged to bring a packed lunch from home. We remember Irish school systems where children had to bring packed lunches because school lunches were not provided. The obesity statistics are significantly different than those of these French people
