Criminological theories are conflict theories based on the view that the fundamental causes of crime are the social and economic forces operating within society. Critical theory approaches culture, esp. to literature, which seeks to deal with the social, historical and ideological forces and structures that produce and constrain it. Labeling theory is concerned with how the personal identity and behavior of individuals can be determined or influenced by the terms used to describe or classify them. Life course theory focuses on the stage in life at which exposure to healthful or harmful influences occurs and the duration of exposure to those influences. Positivist theory deals with positive facts and phenomena and excludes speculation about ultimate causes or origins. Rational choice theory is the belief that man is a reasonable actor who decides means and ends, costs and benefits, and makes rational choices. Routine activity theory provides a simple and powerful insight into the causes of crime-related problems. At its core is the idea that, in the absence of effective controls, offenders will prey on attractive targets. Social control theory provides an explanation of how behavior conforms to what is generally expected in society. Social disorganization theory explains ecological differences in crime levels based on structural and cultural factors that shape the nature of social order in communities. This approach alters sociological studies featuring any of two or more random variables showing correlated variation in urban growth to examine the concentration and stability of rates of criminal behavior. Tension theory. Conflict theory explains the belief that individuals choose to commit crime, which many believe… middle of paper… the city. of the police on the payroll. Detroit police don't get paid much depending on what rank they are classified. According to the FBI, “robbery crimes account for 29.2% of violent crimes; rape accounted for 6.9%; and homicides accounted for 1.2%.” Criminology is a way that people can get involved in a deeper sense to find a way to stop murders. With these statistics out here, I think more studies on criminology and feminist criminology should be taken seriously. When you look at Detroit, you look at a city that has been through a lot and a strong city. The news always paints Detroit as a bad place and as a place where there is violence. Well, I think if each of us will take the time to change Detroit or even study criminology to help change the amount of crime committed.
