The story of Emir Abd el-Kader is one of the greatest stories of or about a struggle I have ever heard of, except perhaps the Revolutionary War and that might just be because I'm American and we're taught how awesome it was. There are six big reasons why I believe Abd el-Kader's story and legacy should be remembered today, because not only does he face a terrible fight, but he maintains his composure and attitude throughout despite overwhelming odds. It also teaches people who, due to ethnocentrism, believe that the people living in Africa were a backward and uncivilized clan group, and that they only became civilized when they were brought to them from Europe, that people from Africa were not only civilized, but had previously been more powerful states than Europe, were just as artistic, and had great technological advances. He also deserves to be remembered because Abd el-Kader was willing to oppose someone whose army was larger, better trained, better equipped, better supplied and had more experience than him. Furthermore, this was only after he had managed to unify a fractured society, without a head of government until he took command, and this had caused many tribes to rebel or disobey. Another thing his legacy shows is that to achieve success we don't simply have to be strong, but moral authority is also needed, as no one would want a horrible person to rule over them. Yet another reason is that while he was in exile he showed that people of different religions, who spoke different languages, were raised differently and believed in completely different things can be friends and can live close together, which was very unusual at the time. .. middle of paper... like Abd el-Kader was, only with a little more science and math, they would have had one of the best educations possible. If he hadn't been taught what he was, I don't think he would have been as effective as a sultan or a general, and he wouldn't have been as good a person as he was taught. to finish his education, and when he was imprisoned, people wouldn't want him so much, and he would spend the rest of his life in prison. I know that education has a great impact on how people react to things, and I believe that without his education he would never have led his people because he would not have been close to religion, but anyone else, regardless of education, he would have been able to do it. have, or will ever be able to duplicate his feats, because of how extraordinary he performed during the situation, which was almost beyond hope.
