Topic > Carbon emissions are harming the environment - 1594

Carbon emissions have become a problem for the environment by changing the temperature and depleting ozone. Technology has made it possible for water and other essential resources to be readily available for use outside and inside the home. Humans have increased water use for irrigation and pleasure, decreasing water availability, while emitting carbon from water use. The amount of water used today has put pressure on the water system. Looking at Figure 1, most students use enough water to release more than 0.40 kg of 〖CO〗_2 per shower. The data I recorded is at the higher end of the spectrum for the class. However, this information only shows the 〖CO〗_2 released per shower, interpreting the minute values, magnifying the values could lead to a larger impact. If the data were scaled up to include all of America, or the entire world, and everyone took showers every day that exceeded 0.40 kg 〖CO〗_2 per shower, the values would be astronomical and would have a big impact. An increase in 〖CO〗_2 levels potentially causes a rise in temperature with a cascade of events, such as melting mountains and glaciers, natural disasters and damage to natural systems. The amount of 〖CO〗_2 emitted has an effect that not only affects one aspect of the environment, but influences many. The temperature of the atmosphere changes the temperature of the water, causing the alteration of the habitats of thousands of fish. The biodiversity of rivers, oceans and lakes decreases because species must adapt to their environment, but if they fail to do so they no longer survive. Water depletion is crucial because it is a necessary resource for survival. Fresh water makes up about 2.5% of the Earth, mostly hidden underground or in the form of ice… middle of the paper… (Figure 7). In this case this could mean that my refrigerator is not as efficient as other refrigerators. But, as seen in the electricity graphs, people use electricity for many appliances and electronic devices not only for necessity but for pleasure. Imagining the use of electricity in a broader vision, thousands of people use electronic devices throughout the day that absorb energy and at the same time emit carbon emissions. Humans are faced with a trade-off, they may need the food, energy to power their electronic devices and water, but they are also causing harm. As observed from this sample of data, people tend to spend resources, without returning them to the environment. Energy is running out, resources are running out, and the human population continues to grow. For humans to sustain a lifestyle like this, a new way to achieve sustainability will need to be formulated.
