Introduction to the literature review. The literature review aims to develop current and existing knowledge regarding physical activity in the area of nurses and nursing students, as well as to analyze omissions in the literature in the area of physical activity among nursing students. An online search was conducted using databases such as Medline, Cinahl, ASSIA, EBSCO and Science Direct. The limitation of the time frame of the literature is from 2000 to 2010, using the key words: physical activity-exercise-nursing students-physical activity levels-students. Various combinations of the above keywords were used to enhance the analysis of the collected data and produced research papers and reports related to the topic. The literature generated includes: clinical, educational and policy documents on physical activity. Additionally, researchers' articles published by international sources outside the United Kingdom (UK) were taken into account, because their findings could be compared with those from the UK. Furthermore, to develop the knowledge base in this area, literature based on the activities, diet and other lifestyle issues of general nurses was also included. The search results generated approximately 20 articles based on which the researcher decided to review. Most of the literature generated has investigated behavior related to health promotion and physical activity among nursing students and nurses. Although some articles were explicitly based on physical activity in nursing students, the documentation generated combined health behaviors such as physical activity, healthy eating and physical fitness, mainly because these three indicators are relevant for a healthy lifestyle.Ana... ... half of the article ......top concerns of nursing students. In conclusion, the studies reviewed recognized various studies that analyzed PA and other healthy lifestyles among nursing students. Many of these studies conclude that it is even more vital for nursing students to improve their health behaviors within health promotion areas such as PA. This report identified the gap in the literature regarding the recommended amount of physical education for student nurses. Since then, they are the future healthcare providers and role models for the public. Therefore, by conducting this study, the findings of this study will add knowledge to the literature and may help bridge the gap in nursing student participation in PA. This will justify the purpose of conducting this research. The research purpose, theme and objectives of this study are given below.
