Eric Carle, a well-known children's book illustrator, was born in Syracuse, New York in 1929. His stylistic technique of collage of hand-painted papers cut and layered to create images allegre has made him and his work distinct and easily recognisable. Raised in Germany, he returned to the United States where his advertising career began, followed by that of an illustrator. Thanks to Carle's love of nature and successful advertising career, his lively, simple, animal-filled illustrations are clear evidence that reflects his past experiences. Carle had a happy childhood in America. However, he moved to Germany with his parents when he was six and attended the prestigious art school Akademie der Bildenden Künste. In 1952 he returned to New York to return to the happy place where he grew up. He was then recruited as a graphic designer by the New York Times before being drafted as a postal clerk in the Korean War. Once he returned, he worked as an art director for an advertising agency ("Eric Carle"). His first job as an illustrator was with a famous author named Bill Martin Jr. Martin asked Carle to illustrate his book after seeing an advertising piece. he had eaten a red lobster (“Eric Carle”). It was then that his career as an illustrator truly began. Over the years he not only achieved numerous successes with his works, but also wrote his own books. He is best known for his book The Very Hungry Caterpillar where bright colors, strange shapes and unique cutouts are used throughout the pages. Carle has always had a love for nature; most of his books depict animals or plants of some kind. This recurring theme is found throughout the years of his career since his first work titled Brown Be......middle of paper......previous works to convey a welcoming and educational message in his work. He makes his art clear, educational and unconventional to express his individuality and help children in their development. If it weren't for his first two works, the teacher who showed him the forbidden painting, and his love of children, he probably wouldn't be the memorable artist he is today.
