Over 100 million animals die in the United States every year; the cause of these deaths, animal testing. This injustice towards animals involves testing products such as drugs or cosmetics on poor imprisoned animals who do not have the ability to defend their rights like most of us do. The animals used for testing are given products that can cause burns, poisoning or death. These animals are forced to live in confined spaces where they wait until the next horrible experiment. They are tortured beyond belief as they are sometimes even cut open while they are alive (known as vivisection), either with expired painkillers or even without them. These animals used to test products commonly include mice, rats, rabbits, monkeys, hamsters, guinea pigs, dogs and cats. These animals are forced to test new products before they are sold to humans, and while there are many good substitutes on which to test products, the law does not require us to do so. What is even more terrifying is that no animal experiments are illegal, and therefore these "tests" can be completely irrelevant to human health, and no matter how painful or cruel the test may be to animals, it is completely legal. Some companies that test their products on animals include Almay, Johnson & Johnson, Clearasil, Axe, Lancôme (owned by L'Oréal), and Pantene (owned by Procter & Gamble). The European Union (consisting of 28 European countries) and India have both banned animal testing in their countries. The European Union has declared that animal testing is not necessary, which is proven by the Food and Drug Administration which showed that 92% of all products that reacted positively in animals were harmful or ineffective in humans as we are two completely different species! However, keep in mind that these 92% are among the rare drugs that are effective or even safe for animals. Additionally, many people may fear that we may have to test new products on humans instead of animals. The fact is, we already do it. Since animal testing is so unreliable, sooner or later someone will have to be the person to test the specific drug. There are many activists around the world, of different races and ethnicities, fighting for people's rights. animals. Some famous animal activists include P!nk, Ellen DeGeneres, Ke$ha, Alicia Keys, Angelina Jolie and many more.
