It is therefore appropriate to rethink the efforts that take place in the act of reading and how the translation perspective modifies and orients our reading processes. Hans Georg Gadamer, in his work on "To what extent does language dictate thought?" ("To what extent does language prescribe thought?"), synthetically expresses the relationship between reading and translating in the following way: "Reading is already translating and translating is then translating again... The translation process essentially closes the whole secret of human understanding of the world and of social communication". ("Reading is already translation, and translation is translation for the second time... The translation process contains in its essence the whole secret of human understanding of the world and of processes social."
