“Latin” America and “Anglo-Saxon” America Latin America is conceived as inferior to the United States and Europe, from the point of view of “modernity”. This conception was formed due to the ideas of Latinidad. Latinidad is an ideology under the former Spanish and former Portuguese colonies that were in the new global world (Mignolo, 2002, p. 58). Ultimately the Latinidad ideology became a consequence of colonial and imperial conflicts and how these conflicts were constructed (Mignolo, 2002, p. 89). These ideas of Latinidad connected to the reorganization of imperial power in Europe. This ideology of Latinidad then became linked to how Creoles moved from a colonized group to becoming the dominant elite in the matrix of coloniality. Finally, Latinidad contributed to marking the difference between "Latin" America and "Anglo-Saxon" America, introducing a hierarchical relationship between the two. European imperial power was reorganized. This reorganized power reached what is now South America and conquered the lands to lay the (European) “foundations” (Mignolo, 2002, p. 52). When the Europeans arrived and conquered these new lands, they were considered a “foundation” by the way because they were technically not the first to conquer those lands. The Europeans came closer and took part in a process called Pachakuti. This term means it describes how Europeans arrived; they created the complete destruction of the civilizations already created, they invaded these civilizations and completely ignored the fact that these civilizations existed. Latin America was “a consequence of the remapping of the colonial/modern world induced by the decolonization of America and the emancipation of Europe” (Mignolo, 2002, p. 89). L...... middle of paper ......once again for being further behind “Anglo-Saxon” America. Modernity has helped develop the world to how it is perceived today. For this reason, Latin America is inferior to the United States and Europe. The Europeans came and took over the territory of Latin America and because of this, Latin America was inferior to Europe because it could not be better than what Europe had. The United States also had White Supremacy in its favor, which also allowed the United States to be superior to Latin America. Because North America is so different from South America, the names "Saxon" America and "Latin" America were given to differentiate the two areas. This once again helped to show the hierarchical relationship between “Latin” and “Saxon” America. Works Cited Mignolo, W.D. (2005). The idea of Latin America (pp. 1-94).
