Is love at first sight real? According to “Your Tango,” “nearly fifty-eight percent of Americans believe that love at first sight is real. Fifty percent of Americans also say they have experienced it personally” (Behan). The controversy over whether or not a couple can fall in love quickly can be debated. However, the truth about love is that it can happen in a split second. With evidence from William Shakespeare's play Romeo and Juliet, there is proof that love at first sight exists. Love at first sight is possible because Romeo and Juliet showed strong feelings towards each other as soon as they crossed paths, and they did everything for their love, including killing each other to be together forever. Love at first sight is attainable because Romeo and Juliet Juliet showed great affection for each other soon after they met. For example, when Romeo first saw Juliet, he exclaimed, “Has my heart loved hitherto? Deny your sight! / Because I had never seen true beauty until this night. (IV54-55).” Romeo wonders if he has ever truly loved anyone before this moment. He also claims that he has never seen true beauty before. This shows that Romeo fell in love with Juliet as soon as he saw her for the first time without even speaking to her. Furthermore, immediately after meeting Romeo, Juliet says: “My only love, born from my only hate! (Iv147).” Two scenes earlier, Juliet declares to her mother and nurse that she does not feel ready to marry and does not want to marry Paris yet. However, after seeing Romeo, Juliet immediately falls in love with him and admits that she wants to marry him. Furthermore, the night after Romeo and Juliet meet, Romeo risks his life to see his love again. Juliet... in the center of the card... lovers", their love was thwarted by fate, but they still found a way to meet because they truly loved each other. This solidifies the point that love at first sight is real because Romeo and Juliet had feelings of love from the moment they saw each other. The next time someone is judged by how quickly they fell in love, think back to how they could have true feelings for that person. No matter how long two people know each other, the feelings they have for each other can be as long-lasting as the strongest love. Works Cited Behan, Catherine.
