Topic > The automaticity of social life by John A. Bargh

In the next article I will talk about the article “The automaticity of social life”, by John A. Bargh. For those of you who are not familiar with the word Automaticity, let me give you a brief explanation, automaticity is when you do something unconsciously or out of habit. In the article Bargh talks about automatism from different perspectives. He tells us a couple of experiences he has had on different types of occasions. Some social psychologists believe that automatic only develops negative results, however the article proves otherwise. There have been many studies done that show that automaticity has a good impact on someone's life, regardless of whether it was conscious or unconscious. People participate in automaticity consciously and even unconsciously, social perception is something we are all a part of. When we see someone for the first time we always judge them without even knowing them, the so-called stereotype. It's something that comes naturally to us, we do it unconsciously. Bargh's studies show that when someone was introduced to rude they intended to be rude, and when someone was introduced to polite they acted politely. It all depends on what people put in their minds, whatever you put in their minds is what you will pursue. A lot of things you do, a lot of choices you make, social life impacts all of that. Your family, your partner, your friends and even your environment have had an impact on this. Even if we don't realize how much all these things affect our lives. Everything around us influences us; even a simple television program can have an impact on our lives. An extremely important development in the history of psychology was the discovery of mirror neurons. The mirror neuron is a neuron that activates both when a person observes an action and...... middle of paper......the discovery was that of mirror neurons, mirror neurons are something that also found in primates. These neurons fire when someone looks at something and when they do the same action. This is important because it shows us that when people do something, they feel it too. Not just when they see it happen, but when they do the same thing themselves. Many times we see people express attitudes and attitudes about how rude they are and when we do so, after a while we begin to realize how mean we have been. This article simply proves that everything around us influences our psychological and behavioral development. It demonstrates how our minds are connected to the social world. We can also tell ourselves when we change the group of people we hang out with; we also tend to start behaving like them. They are little things that we may not notice, until we actually start looking into them.
