Topic > Elements of Poetry and Essay Writing - 897

I was surprised to find that I could use so many techniques that poets use to write my essays. For example, by choosing certain words, I can set the tone of the essay and demonstrate certain attitudes. Furthermore, I can exploit different technical methods, such as abstractions, assonances and rhetorical figures to make an essay more interesting. Furthermore, I think it is important to try to understand the poet's meaning behind the choice of words. After analyzing the poems of John Donne, Anne Bradstreet, and Robert Frost, I will discuss how I think certain elements can be used in my writing. Anne Bradstreet used words like “loved,” “happy,” and “reward” to set a positive tone (963). The author's attitude appeared grateful and appreciative. In contrast, Robert Frost chose to use words such as “perish,” “hate,” and “destruction,” which showed a negative tone and attitude (1009). I've never thought about it this much before, but I think I might use this technique in the future. By choosing the right words, I can ensure that readers interpret my writing the way I intend it to be perceived. I have also discovered several technical methods that can be used in writing my essays. This is another area I've never paid much attention to. Sure, I've used some, but I never knew what they were called or understood the full effect. Abstractions and different figures of speech were among some of the methods found. For example, “Beat my heart, three-person God” (Doone 988), “To my dear and loving husband” (Bradstreet 963), and “Fire and Ice” (Frost 1009), abstractions were used. they are words we use to describe something that has no concrete reality (Papers 787). For example, in Doone's poem, the author used words like “weak” and “false” (989). word “love” (963). And finally, Frost’s choice of words was cleverly used by using “desire” and “hate” (1009). These are also considered examples of figurative speech as they use similes or metaphors in describing the 'topic (Papers 795). I feel that by taking advantage of some of these techniques, I can make my essays more interesting to readers. Additionally, I have found that several rhetorical figures techniques such as metonymy, apostrophe, hyperbole, and symbols. were used in Anne Bradstreet's poem “To My Dear and Loving Husband.”” (963).
