The Original Ten In today's society, followers of Christianity and Judaism believe they interpret the Ten Commandments correctly. The original Ten Commandments were established by God as a covenant between Him and His followers. To clarify the true meaning of these instructions, more information is needed than just the commandments. When researchers and believers turned to Bible passages, then the “truth” was revealed. The story of the original Ten Commandments is found in the book of Exodus. The first time God communicated with Moses was on the top of Mount Sinai in Egypt. During the first meeting, God explained why he had helped save Israel from the polytheistic kingdom of Egypt. Since the religious practices of Egypt in the time of Moses consisted of praising animals and multiple gods. God then explained that the Israelites needed to be made into priests to serve God in this nation. During their second meeting on Mount Sinai, God verbally revealed to Moses what we call the Ten Commandments. Along with these commandments, Moses was given laws to help manage the lives of civilians and how they should worship. These laws are mentioned at the beginning of Exodus 25:1, immediately after the giving of the Ten Commandments. After receiving the commandments, Moses remained on the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights. During this time, God gave instructions to build the tabernacle to house the commandments and guidelines for offerings. Then, God gave Moses two stone tablets. On these two tablets were the original Ten Commandments written in God's handwriting. Moses' actions separating this miracle pave the way for the second set of commandments (Guenther, Leanne.
