Have you or someone you know been a victim of bullying? Your answer is probably yes. So was Jodee Blanco, the author of Please Stop Laughing At Me… One Woman's Emotional Story. Starting in fifth grade until she graduated from high school, she was tormented by her classmates, receiving little to no help from the authorities. Even his parents began to believe it was his fault. She understands what it's like to be bullied and wrote the book as something other victims can relate to. He also wrote it to show people how serious bullying is and make them understand that it shouldn't be dismissed as a normal part of growing up and allowed to happen. Something should be done to prevent kids from experiencing all this. This is his main point in this book. The main idea of this book is that Ms. Blanco shares her experiences of bullying throughout much of her teenage life to show people the horrors of bullying and that it should not be allowed to continue. This main idea is shown throughout the book. When the bullying began in fifth grade, when he began volunteering with the deaf, his parents confronted the principal only to be told that kids will be kids. For a while, life didn't get better for Jodee. He changed schools to avoid bullies but nothing worked. The fact that she had a deformity didn't help matters and she was terrified that someone would find out her secret. She was afraid to attend her high school reunion because she was afraid of how they would treat her. Mrs. Blanco has been through a lot. One example is his torture throughout most of the book. In sixth grade he went to his friends' party and, to his shock, a couple started kissing in the closet. She called her mother to tell her what was going on and her mother told her mother…half a sheet of paper…and how you want to be treated is a good way to make friends and do business. " (Blanco 270)There are many different examples that prove that the author's bullying experiences are the main idea of the book. From the 5th to the 12th grade she was tormented by her classmates. But her family and friends she's made along the way have helped her cope and, overall, she says it's made her a better person. She's gotten over what happened to her and let it change her in a positive way to prevent what happened to her from happening to someone else prevent it?
