While there are many things that make the 21st century a remarkable time period, there are also flaws that it is impossible to understand why this happens. There are 10 things that were particularly interesting and seemed to be unique to our century: remote controls, brands, cars, politics, war, Chinese manufacturing, economics, news, bullying, end of the world, and drug abuse. All of these have elements that make you wonder what the problem is with people in this century. The first example is remote controls. What a great invention: now people simply have to press buttons to enjoy a television. However, it also created a great paradox. People spend hours looking for the remote control for their television when it is extremely simple to walk up to the television and press the power button. This shows that people are simply lazy to the point that the only time they are actually diligent is when they have to be diligent to be lazy. Another important issue concerns trademarks. People pay so much attention to brands that it becomes the most important factor in the price of an item. A computer with an apple symbol costs ten times more than a similar product, a Louis Vuiton bag costs more than the price of a Rolex watch, and designer shoes cost a fortune to buy, when something without that brand of similar quality costs a lot less. It seems that people pay more attention to the sign that the product is good than to whether the product is worth its exorbitant price. Cars are another factor that is a big problem. People buy cars like shoes lately. When they no longer like the car, they simply buy a new one. When the Toyota recall scandal broke, the people with Toyota who weren't…half of paper…their efforts. In conclusion, the 21st century would be, as Charles Dickens says in “The Tale of Two Cities,” “it is the worst of times and the best of times…” While technological advances make life easier, such advances cause incredible accidents like looking for the remote control for hours, buying bags at the price of cars because of the brands, changing cars like shoes, having senseless political situations, useless wars in the Middle East, everything people use made in China, absurd economic solutions, channels of non-neutral information, useless bullying assemblies, people talking about the end of the world, drug and alcohol problems everywhere and many other paradoxes you could imagine I can't even list them in a day. However, people try to make the most of it time, and compared to all the good things of the 21st century, the problems are relatively few..
