Topic > Gay Marriage Should Be Legalized - 1694

There are numerous standing opinions and views on gay marriage. The question of whether gay marriage should be legalized or not is extremely controversial. According to an article by the Human Rights Campaign, there is nothing wrong with allowing homosexuals to have the same rights as heterosexuals. Every single person should be guaranteed equal rights, regardless of sexuality. Gay marriage should be legalized in all states and countries, it has been delayed for too long. Furthermore, there are several reasons why homosexuals strongly desire to marry legally. One of the most commonly heard reasons is that they want to legally prove their love for each other by having a marriage license. Homosexuals want the right to marry like anyone else, and for the same reasons, too. They are in love and want to spend their life with this person. Although it is possible to do this without being married; “they want to honor their relationship in the best way our society has to offer” (90). There is no reason why two people cannot get married despite their sexuality. If a man and a woman get married because they love each other, what is the difference between a man and a man or a woman and a woman who want to get married because they love each other? Furthermore, another reason why homosexuals want the right to marry their spouse is because they are being disenfranchised. Even if two people love each other, if they cannot marry they lose some rights. Marriage offers benefits to both spouses, “same-sex couples in long-term, committed relationships pay higher taxes and are denied the basic protections and rights afforded to married heterosexual couples” (90). It is unfair to same-sex couples to lose rights based on sexuality. They are... in the center of the card... and" (97). Some people have lived with this mindset about what a marriage is, but not everything has just one perspective. A marriage is ultimately two people who are series and love each other, gender does not take place when a person actually takes time to think about what a marriage actually is, there will always be two points of view on gay marriage; agree. Gay marriage should be legally recognized, what's so right about a heterosexual marriage compared to a homosexual one? They both start with the letter “H”, the only difference is the gender right to determine what is considered “right,” marriage makes a couple officially united; it affects no one but them. Labels should not define love, and by not giving same-sex couples the right to marry, it is unfair and wrong.
