Topic > Essay on Brutus - 828

In William Shakespeare's play Julius Caesar, Brutus attempted to use the idea that "the ends justify the means" to rationalize his decision to kill Caesar. Some people today use the same argument to justify acts of war, violent protests, or terrorism. “The end justifies the means” in the perspective of today's world is that the end of something is the beginning of something else or the end of an action can define the result of other actions that a person has performed in his life . Most tragedies are titled after the tragic hero's name, which is why some critics argue that Julius Caesar should actually be titled Brutus or something else. Other critics argue that Julius Caesar is truly the tragic hero of the play. “If it be for the general good, put honor in one eye and death in the other, and I will look on both with indifference” (Julius Caesar: Act 1) Julius Caesar is a tragic drama in which most of the characters die in the fight to become king. Julius Caesar, the first to have a necessary end to death, is brutally killed by the conspirators led by Brutus. He was stabbed multiple times. Brutus easily moved on from Cassius saying that Caesar is a powerful force in terms of his chances of becoming king; he soon decides that the conspiracy is helping the formation of Rome and quickly takes part in devising a plan to murder Caesar. However, there were reasons why Brutus chose to oppose Caesar and one was mainly due to his love for Rome and his honor and loyalty to the county. Brutus, is a true Roman, and is very important to Rome, but these main motivations of Brutus lead him to his tragic flaw as they made him reflect on his judgments and turned him into a more decisive decision maker. Brutus ...... middle of paper ...... d Rome having their hearts broken and that the civil war had to be stopped to bring Rome back to normal. Knowing that the war will end if the leader of the conspirators, especially Brutus, is dead, the civil war will end with the victory of Caesar's conquests. Even though his army will lose the war after his death, Brutus committed suicide because all Brutus wanted was for Rome to heal and recover from the disaster caused by the war. In the end, the main goal of taking Caesar's life to make Rome better wasn't the best idea. Because the main purpose of killing Caesar was to make Rome better, away from the hands of a tyrant of people. But he and the conspirators did not finish doing so as the things that happened resulted in a civil war and the division of Rome into small different pieces rather than bringing Rome together as a whole country..
