The entertainment industry has been around for many, many years, dating back to the original stage productions. Actors and actresses needed to make sure they could find work and also make sure they were paid correctly and promptly, so talent agencies emerged. Talent agencies help actors, actresses, models and other entertainment personalities find work in their desired field and help them keep their careers on the right track. But in the 1980s there was a shift in power, and talent agencies found themselves on the losing end of this power struggle. What I would like to explore and research is how these agencies have been able to stay in business and use media and other outlets to keep their heads above water and not go out of business. How much power did talent agencies have before this upheaval in the 1980s and how did the transfer of power happen and who did it go to. How have agencies managed to continue to grow business and continue to thrive and prosper in a business that seemed to be in decline? What tactics were talent agents using to stay relevant in an industry that was taking their power and being passed on to others in the same industry? Talent agencies became very powerful in the entertainment industry and did whatever they wanted. When the 1980s came there was a big change in the entertainment industry and the power was stripped from the talent agencies and as a result it was divided among the other players in the industry. Therefore many talent agencies began to dissolve and that part of the industry began to decline. To stay in business, many agencies have started to spread their influence to other sectors of the industry, such as models, voice actors and ch...... middle of paper ...... h social media, talent agencies among the late 1990s and early 2000s their fortunes changed direction. Through social media, agencies have fueled rumors and incidents to bring power back to their side, taking it away from managers, casting directors and film producers. Ken Slevin, one of the founders and owners of talent agency CESD, said social media has helped his company's rise to power in the United States. Through the use of Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest, he found talent and grew his company to cover the entire United States of America. One of her agents, Mallory Tucker, said social media helps her easily stay in touch with her clients and allows her to connect on a more personal level. Through social media, this connection between agents and their artists should be the catalyst to keep the industry alive and functioning for the future.
