Topic > Motivation and Its Psychological Properties - 898

Zig Ziglar once said: “People often say that motivation doesn't last. Well, not even the bathroom... that's why we recommend it every day.” Every day our emotions, motivations or instincts provide the fuel for motivation. Motivations can be found in basic innate needs for survival, thrill-seeking, and the reward of gratification; however, these daily things strengthen motivation day by day. Motivation and its psychological properties run very deep in my life. My knowledge of psychology is seen with my intrinsic, extrinsic and success motivation, which is ongoing in my life, in the pursuit of my career goals. There has never been a time, that I can remember, when I never loved the medical field. From an early age, instead of dolls, I had toys related to the medical industry. There was always this intrinsic motivation to do things for my own personal enjoyment. I used to pretend to be a doctor with my toy medical bag with my grandmother just because I enjoyed playing that way. As an adult, and quite recently, I purchase medical books to read and learn for the fun of it. I realized that the anatomy coloring book I purchased a few weeks ago fits this intrinsic motivation perfectly. I love drawing and painting, and doing so with human anatomy has been a joy for me, with the added bonus of learning at the same time. Watching television, Grey's Anatomy is another intrinsic motivator, because I like drama, comedy and how they represent the medical field. I've learned that I don't do any of these things because I have to, or to get some reward later, but because I enjoy doing it for personal enjoyment. When it comes to being motivated to get a reward or avoid a punishment, I learned what I'm currently doing... halfway down a sheet of paper... ely turned into extrinsic motivation when I wanted to get that degree. In my free time I still enjoy reading manuals, articles, new stories, and newsletters from hospitals that satisfy my drive to learn. This course opened my eyes to see how much of my life can be about psychology. I have a better understanding of how things went and what they mean for me personally. The most important thing I cared about were my impulses and motivations. This is something I see in my daily life, from the intrinsic motivations of enjoying learning, to the extrinsic motivations of getting good grades, and the motivation of achieving a doctorate. Zigler was right and said that to maintain the initial motivation you need to strengthen it daily. Once I reach my goals, it will be exciting to see where my motivation will take me.
