Did you know that over 500,000 men and women attended the music and arts festival called Woodstock? Countless numbers of Hippies attended the festival because the hippie movement had just begun in the 1960s. This unique group of people participated in activities such as going to festivals, dressing in a way that was counter to the mainstream and had very different personalities. Being a hippie was more than just a fashion statement, it was a new way of life introduced in the 1960s. Some of the most notable changes in the 1960s were the use of drugs such as marijuana and LSD used by hippies. Along with the drug use commonly used by hippies were new fashion trends. Suddenly young men began to grow beards and let their hair hang past their shoulders. Then women started dressing in psychedelic colors and dressing in ways no one had ever seen. Then, once the crazy and amazing hippie style emerged, men and women began wearing bell-bottom jeans, tie dye shirts, headbands and sandals. Sometimes men and women even went barefoot, some women even went without a bra! Some other common hippie styles were fringed buckskins, vests, caftans, Mexican peasant blouses, and gypsy style skirts as most women commonly dressed. Although for other conservative hippie styles there was more of a relaxed style, such as men and women wearing pajamas with a tunic of some kind. Hippies also had a different perspective on music and appreciated many of the artists who regularly patronized men and women. No. Hippies also liked normal music, like the Beatles. One thing that comes to mind when I think of 60s music is the British musical invasion. British bands had great success in the United States in... middle of paper... acid trips were a constant problem but in the end everything worked out for the best. Perhaps things would not have gone well without the help of volunteers in the audience who were able to get medical assistance, food and all other types of help needed due to overcrowding and bad weather. Woodstock was a symbol of all that was good about the hippie movement and showed what it was all about even if it was short-lived. The entire event was captured on film by one man that lasted twenty-one hours, but was cut down to a three and a half hour documentary. The Hippie movement may have been short-lived but they lived their lives having fun, tended to use drugs, and enjoyed going to festivals like Woodstock. The hippies were a once-in-a-lifetime movement that our world may never experience again. Now you can understand why 500,000 hippies attended the Woodstock music and art festival.
