Chemistry is that branch of science that deals with the identification of the substances of which matter is composed; of investigating their properties and the ways in which they interact, combine and change; and the use of these processes to form new substances. Chemists believe that chemistry is the study of matter and the study of change. Chemistry is in our daily lives, it has to do with the food we eat, the air we breathe and almost everything we see or touch. The reason why chemistry is so important is because it is the foundation of life, such as humans and other living organisms. Chemistry has been used for thousands of years. The first chemical reaction used in a controlled way was fire: burning wood, boiling water, and lighting. Early societies used fire early on for cooking and keeping habitats lit for more advanced things like pottery making, brick making, and metal smelting. Advances were soon made to include the production of glass and the purification of metals. At one point alchemists were trying to turn lead into gold and find the elixir of life through different chemicals...
