In the novel Hate List Valerie Leftman starts dating a boy named Nick, she feels that he makes her life better and loves the way he helps her by distracting her from her parents having trouble in marriage. One day, after being repeatedly called mean names, she decides to start a hate list, this list consists of people and things she absolutely hates. When Nick sees it he starts helping her put names on it, soon all Nick and Valerie talk about is the list and how they want those people to die. But unlike Valerie, Nick actually plans to kill those people. One day Nick enters the school and starts shooting all the people he finds who have eaten on their list. When Valerie sees this she tries to stop him and jumps in front of the gun and is shot, after Valerie does this Nick shoots himself in the head immediately ending his life. Valerie struggles to come to terms with the fact that Nick wasn't the good guy she thought he was. At the end of the book she and her newfound friend Jessica Campbell hold a memorial for all the deaths, and Valerie is finally...
