How does the media influence people's behavior and perception of the world? When you look at a magazine, what catches your attention the most? Is it the juicy gossip that tells you if a certain celebrity has broken up with another? Or is it the beautiful models that grace every single page of the magazine? Which music is best? What's in fashion? A place we might like to visit for holidays. Where should we hang out with our friends? What a movie to go see. We all receive some sort of influence from the media. It shapes our opinions, but it can also be for the worse. In recent years media has grown widely in magazines, radio/music and the Internet. It has a strong influence especially on young people and adolescents of this generation. First, magazines influence young people and teenagers. There are so many magazines that young people love to look at to find out what's trendy. People, Seventeen and Teen Vogue are some of the magazines that appeal to some teenagers. Flipping through the pages of magazines, teenagers will see mold after mold of an image that has made teenagers want to be in our society. Many young people and teenagers will do anything to look like their favorite celebrity. This can happen to both girls and boys, as many girls want to look like their favorite celebrities who are slim and consider beautiful. Many young people will do anything to look like their three favorite celebrities and will even start a diet that could cause them harm. One of the diseases is called anorexia; it is when someone does not eat and dies of hunger another disease is bulimic; when someone eats and then vomits. These diseases are more recommended for girls, but can also affect boys. It could be that bad; ended up finding themselves in... the middle of a sheet of paper... anger off the Internet shows a study conducted by a professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati “250 adolescents between the ages of 14 and 17, who are were observed for a year to 16 months to see if they met their Internet friends offline. About half of them have suffered abuse or mistreatment” Dr. Jennie Noll, professor of pediatrics at the University of Cincinnati While the economy grows more and more every year, the media will also grow and many teenagers will not have a social life because they are too very involved in Facebook, watching movies, sending emails, shopping online, etc... The media will end up telling them what to do and how to behave and dress. Magazines, radio/music, and the Internet are some of the ways media influence adolescent behavior and perceptions of the world. This is how I believe the media influences people's behavior and perception of the world.
