The Holocaust, what is the true depth of the word? As sad as it may seem, it has had the most damaging effects on the human mind in history. Many horrific events consisting of the genocide of the Jews during World War II occurred during the Holocaust. Accounts of life during the genocide of Jewish culture have emerged, including Elie Wiesel's memoir Night, General Dwight D. Eisenhower's letters to George C. Marshall, Mein Kampf, and Nazi leader Adolf Hitler's The Jewish Peril books. Furthermore, victims of the Holocaust were deeply affected by the trauma they suffered due to such atrocity and brutality described by its survivors. Individuals can't seem to get enough of what some people have gone through, but what actually happened in History, and is revealed first hand. by Elie Wiesel. These desperate words rang in Wiesel's head in reaction to the concentration camps: “I pinched myself: Was I still alive? Was I awake? How was it possible that men, women and children were burned and the world remained silent? No. This couldn't be real” (Wiesel 32). He survived the Holocaust of World War II, although it wasn't easy due to the many conflicts he encountered. Wiesel focuses on different aspects of existence during the atrocity in his corresponding works Night. For example, many atrocities were committed in and around the city; most of them were against civilians. The Germans saw many innocent Jews humiliated and sent to die in concentration camps during World War II. However, they did nothing because of the deep hatred they had for the Jews. This just goes to show the atrocities committed and some of these violent acts included burning, shootings and beheadings. Furthermore, the atrocities that Hitler unleashed against the population were due to propaganda. As human beings we are often faced with challenges, threats and many difficult choices. The importance of these issues is how we arrive at our final decision and how we decide to deal with all the surprises we encounter in our daily lives. Elie Wiesels' memoir Night, General Dwight D.
