What is the task of social science? Social science focuses its attention on the social aspects of human nature; its task is to study how individuals can relate and communicate with each other. “Social scientists study the social environment in which we live in an attempt to understand human society and predict how people will interact under a given set of circumstances (Mack, 2004, p584). In this essay I discuss the role of social sciences for societies and individuals, how individuals relate to societies, and the function of rules in societies as the main concern of social sciences. The task of social sciences is to train human beings to manage social status. . When we were born, we were part of a society; we were a member of a family; families are the first ruptures of societies. So, we all deal with social groups from birth: families, schools, peer groups and even the media shape our social environment. Mack (2004) noted in his data: “All humans are social. People must interact with other people to survive. Since all human beings live in a society, that is, each person is a member of a human group, it is only reasonable to speak of a social environment” (p584). Social sciences teach us, as members of society, how to cope and interact with the social environment. The question is: why do people need to learn that knowledge? The answer is that humans are social creatures, so they need social science to improve their social skills. It is difficult for a human being to live alone outside of a society. Although it is possible for a human being to survive in solitude, without any kind of social connection, not all of his talent can flourish in isolation. Skills such as communication… middle of the paper… knowledge of science is a powerful resource for understanding and addressing the growing complexities, uncertainties and risks of our world” (Kazancigil, 2003, p379). Individuals are the parts that form societies as a whole. Individuals have a reciprocal relationship with societies. Both are under the control of the social sciences; The social science tool to control them is legislation. Different rules shape different societies in which individuals interact differently. It is not an option to be part of society or not, since we were born we have become part of society. So, as long as we relate to societies, we should care and know about social sciences. Through social sciences we learn the reasons for our actions and behaviors. If we need to change our behaviors to mature and grow our talents, social sciences are here to help us and show us the ways.
