When you think of the greatest NBA players of all time, who do you think of? You most likely thought of players like Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, Kareem Abdul Jabbar or Charles Barkley. But one name surpasses all others when it comes to NBA greats, that name is Michael Jordan. That recognition doesn't just come from being a good player, you have to be able to prove it and Michael Jordan's six NBA championships and his 5 MVPs certainly only help his case of being the best player of all time even more. Michael Jeffery Jordan was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 17, 1963. Michael's parents, James and Delores Jordan, did not want to raise their children in Brooklyn, so they decided to move to North Carolina. They ended up living in a town called Wilmington, where Michael's mother worked at a bank and his father worked as a supervisor at General Electrician. When Michael's parents worked, his 3 older brothers looked after him and his younger sister. (CNN Library 1) As a boy, Michael loved sports and played as many as he could, such as soccer, football, golf and baseball. But, from a young age, Michael knew his true favorite sport was basketball. (McCormick 2,3)Michael excelled in sports throughout middle school. He got to high school and played basketball his freshman year, when college tryouts came around for Michael's sophomore year, he had confidence he could make the team. He didn't end up making the team, but he says that was a good thing because it gave him even more motivation to be the best basketball player he could be. (NBA.com 1) That following year Michael made the varsity team and immediately became the star player, putting up exceptional numbers. But, in his...... middle of paper... ring at the Summer Olympics, Michael was limited in the amount of time he played due to the outbursts of teams they played. Once again Michael Jordan wins, but this time it was for his country, not just his team. (McCormick 39)Today, Jordan enjoys spending time with his wife and three children Jeffrey Michael, Marcus James, and Jasmine Mickael. He also enjoys staying fit and healthy by playing golf and exercising daily. He is also the declared owner of the Charlotte Bobcats and also the biggest supporter of Nike. (McCallum 1) Even today, kids know who he is because of the basketball legacy he left behind. His logo is on all the other kids' clothes, it's everywhere. But you don't get that recognition automatically, you have to be able to show why you deserve it and Michael's career and life as a whole definitely deserves that recognition. (McCormick 41)
