This reflection concerns the critical analysis of two journal articles that I had to complete for journal club. The journal articles I had to review were of my own choice but had to cover the material covered in the Pharmacology and Clinical Therapy 3 module. There were two journal club sessions, which took place in two separate weeks with the same group. The group I was involved in consisted of four members in total, each of us had to discuss our article and provide a critical analysis of the article. The two articles I chose were Article 1: “Lithium decreases plasma adiponectin levels in bipolar depression” (Soeiro-de-Souza et al., 2014) and Article 2: “Involuntary treatment of schizophrenic patients 2004-2010 in Denmark (Andersen et al ., 2013).When I was first given the assignment I couldn't wait to do it, I thought it was a great idea as whatever path I choose to take in pharmacy using reliable, reliable and evidence based material will be essential as well as spotting and ignoring rubbish articles It will also be of huge benefit to my 4th year project , but that's all I had done reading them. I never questioned any of the methods used or results provided and I never thought too much about whether I agreed with what was said or basically didn't have an opinion. My expectations for the journal club were exceeded. I found that I enjoyed reviewing the articles and the group session worked very well. You can glean a lot of information from other people about how they review magazines and the questions they ask in relation to mine. I've also learned that I don't always realize how much of my studies over the past three years has been instilled in...half of the assignment......for relevant modules that can lead to better grades in courses and end-of-semester exams . The journal club definitely gave me new perspectives on how to approach articles and how to critique them. I have a better understanding of what to look for and, incorporating what I've learned so far, how to decipher the meaning of certain results. Furthermore, by having the opportunity to practice for two weeks, I could see the difference in myself and the other members of the group. Participating in the journal club gave me a defined perspective on what to look for in a paper and to come to an opinion on whether I thought the paper was of a high standard. Experiences with other people in my group played a role in my learning and approach. This will be of great use to me in the future and particularly when I undertake my final year project where there will be an extensive literature review.
