Communication is a vital part of how we interact with each other. Communication is the act or process of using words, sounds, signs, or behaviors to express or exchange information (Webster, 2014). Demonstrative communication can be defined as non-verbal or non-written forms of communication. This form of communication involves aspects such as body language, facial expressions, tone of voice and other gestures that convey a variety of messages. During communication, the mutual response of the sender and recipient determines how effectively the message is interpreted, positively or negatively. Listening and responding during this form of communication is critical and impacts how we interact with each other in society. “All verbal communication is influenced by the non-verbal that accompanies it, sometimes non-verbal communication can be more significant than words (Non-verbal communication, 2010). Facial expressions, such as eye movements or other facial gestures, are significant expressions of nonverbal communication. These expressions can express emotions, such as joy, fear, anger, interest, or annoyance. Verbal communication can express a message, but your facial expression can show or contradict the words expressed. Facial expressions offer multiple cues to a recipient that add to their interpretation of a message. Body language is another form of demonstrative communication. Our posture can send messages without saying a single word. The way we sit, stand, form our shoulders, fold our hands or arms are mostly involuntary or unconscious gestures, but they still influence how a recipient interprets any message sent. Posture can influence how the message is received and any resulting feedback, which often determines whether communication is… at the heart of the card… is vital regardless of form because it allows information to be received for respond in the appropriate context. Your response should be based on several factors, such as the individual, tone and gesture, as well as verbal content. Demonstrative communication is more vital than verbal communication because it must agree with what is said. Subconsciously, we communicate with each other daily through body movements, facial expressions or tone of voice. A word does not need to be spoken for an individual to interpret the messages sent. A simple smile can speak a lot. Works Cited (2010, September 13). Nonverbal communication.Cherry, K. (2014). About.com/Psychology.
